PENS API
PENS API
PENS is a rather simple protocol implemented as a series of HTTP messages. All PENS communication happens between a Content System (such as an imc Express) and a Target System (such as an LMS).
imc Express initiates a PENS notification by sending a COLLECT message to the Target System. A COLLECT message (and every other PENS message) is simply an HTTP request to a URL provided by the Target System.
This COLLECT message includes a URL and credentials the Target System can use to access the content.
The Target System is then responsible for downloading and importing the content. Once it is finished, it sends a message back to imc Express.
Requirements
The following requirements have to be met to allow content exchange via PENS:
Inbound access (imc Express to Target System)
imc Express has to be able to reach the PENS HTTP(s) endpoint to send the COLLECT message. If the Target System (LMS) is not reachable from the internet the customer has to provide an public reachable reverse proxy that forwards the COLLECT messages to the protected Target System.
Outbound access (Target System to imc Express)
The Target System (LMS) has to be able to download the content from imc Express cloud and send back messages.
Currently the following URL has to be allowed: https://app.imc-express.cloud/*
NOTE: IP address pinning is not possible as the imc Express load balancer scales automatically (adds and removes IPs).
